Sweater Heaven

STYLE TIPS: Don't Let the Sweater Wear You

With the multitude of sweater styles out there, it is easy to become overwhelmed and simply throw whatever sweater flies your way, on. But don't.
In order to wear a open-draped sweater successfully, follow these steps -
1) Choose a color that compliments your skin tone.
2) Find a cut that compliments your natural shape. Think proportions.
For instance, if you are large chested, choose a longer drape to lengthen you and draw a scattered attention.
If you are smaller chested, find dramatic collars or details that draw the eye upward, which will also balance you out.
3) Let the sweater hang naturally. The designers who create these understand layering and create them to 'lay'. This will do you both great justice.
4) They are perfect layering pieces over dresses or tees, so work them easily into all Fall colors in your wardrobe. On those semi-cool days, they can even replace a jacket.
5) Most importantly, own the look and you will make it work fabulously.

WHAT'S TRENDING: Open-Draped Sweaters
If you haven't been shopping lately, open-draped sweaters is where it's at. They are the perfect combination of ease, with just enough hint of sophistication to pull off a put-together look, without a lot of thought.
Long or short, this sweater style elevates your wardrobe to a whole new level. Dramatic collars, wavy front seams and fall colors are just a few of the reasons to fall in love with open-draped sweaters.
Materials to go for are acrylic-blends that speak to the cozy side of Fall. Colors to lean towards are heather grey, burgundy and turquoise (if you can find it). Offering a variety of cuts, gravitate towards the ones that highlight you best. Whatever material, color or style you choose, your open-draped sweater will give you trend-setting status.

Silkwood has a variety of open-draped sweaters. I just picked up a divine, Heather Grey one, with a high back and  long, draped front. Grey compliments any color so it goes with everything in my closet; the style features make me smile. Cozy is the word that really comes to mind, however. As soon as I put it on, I am instantly warm and ready for the weather. Covering all the fashion criteria, these sweaters are a must-have.

Flashback to Pink

STYLE TIPS: Dressing Your Body Type
If you tend to naturally have larger-set hips, flatter them with an a-line dress or skirt. You can also bring the focus up top by wearing a patterned or v-necked top.  (Both these tips also work if you tend to be a little top-heavy).
For the traditional hourglass figure, always highlight the waist. Accessorize with a belt, slip on a pair of high-waisted, denim or allow a naturally, waisted dress do all the work.
A 'boyfriend' shape, or naturally un-curvy, body-type desires angles to flatter. Think V-neck, one-shouldered blouses and boat collars up-top. Pair with patterned, angled or pencil skirts to complete the looks.
I hope these tips help you make the most of who you are, naturally. Work it, girl!

WHAT'S TRENDING: Hot-Pink
Who would have ever guessed that hot-pink would come back into style, especially after the 80's? Thankful or not, it's back!! Not only is it back, but it is also most surprisingly the 'it' color for Fall.
Channeling your inner hot-pink self may be something you have been dreaming about or it could be so out of your usual "playing field" that you have no clue how to make it work. Let me show you...
If you are either fair skinned or not totally in love with this color trend, work it with accessories. Find a hot-pink skinny belt and pair it with a denim or a cobalt blue dress. Create a show-stopper look by highlighting your feet in a hot-pink. Talk about a wow moment, in a minimalistic way.
If you are either tan from summer, naturally darker skinned or simply stoked that hot-pink is back, make a statement with your entire look. Wear a bold dress or a skirt with an ivory and pink scarf. Another great look could incorporate a floral or solid pink blouse paired with a solid black pencil skirt; topped off with an outrageous pink pump.

It's All About the Denim

We fell in love with denim a long time ago. It is one of those lasting materials, that really goes with everything, and looks good on everyone. We all wear denim, from the waist down, but this Fall we bring it back, from the waist up.

Look forward to versatility in light, dark and multi-colored denim. Vests, Jackets and tops are just the beginning. I know what you are thinking - how do I wear it and keep a modern, chic touch to it. Maybe not everyone wants to look like the "Marlboro Man", right? Below is a handful of looks that will take you into the Fall season and beyond.

1) Wear a light-colored, or two-tone, denim button-up, with a dark pair of your favorite style of jeans. Add a pair of Rayban aviators and a fedora hat and you are set.

2) Find a dark-rinse top and pair it with a light-colored, tea-length skirt. I prefer an a-line style skirt, but go with the fit that flatters your body the best. This look will take you into the Fall season and carry you over into the Spring season. Great look that is breezy chic.

3) To dress up the denim, pair a fitted, hip-length blazer over a denim top (color of your choice). Keep the look slimming with a pair of skinny jeans. The blazer should be light in color with style that speaks to you personally. For my classic, taste, I would go with an ivory, black or color-it-wild with a kelly green (one of my top colors for my pallete). With this look, you easily go from dressy to casual with the blazer. There is nothing better than a versatile wardrobe.

Zara is an impeccable brand. There pieces always subtely speak sophistication.
