Sweater Heaven
STYLE TIPS: Don't Let the Sweater Wear You
With the multitude of sweater styles out there, it is easy to become overwhelmed and simply throw whatever sweater flies your way, on. But don't.
In order to wear a open-draped sweater successfully, follow these steps -
1) Choose a color that compliments your skin tone.
2) Find a cut that compliments your natural shape. Think proportions.
For instance, if you are large chested, choose a longer drape to lengthen you and draw a scattered attention.
If you are smaller chested, find dramatic collars or details that draw the eye upward, which will also balance you out.
3) Let the sweater hang naturally. The designers who create these understand layering and create them to 'lay'. This will do you both great justice.
4) They are perfect layering pieces over dresses or tees, so work them easily into all Fall colors in your wardrobe. On those semi-cool days, they can even replace a jacket.
5) Most importantly, own the look and you will make it work fabulously.
WHAT'S TRENDING: Open-Draped Sweaters
If you haven't been shopping lately, open-draped sweaters is where it's at. They are the perfect combination of ease, with just enough hint of sophistication to pull off a put-together look, without a lot of thought.
Long or short, this sweater style elevates your wardrobe to a whole new level. Dramatic collars, wavy front seams and fall colors are just a few of the reasons to fall in love with open-draped sweaters.
Materials to go for are acrylic-blends that speak to the cozy side of Fall. Colors to lean towards are heather grey, burgundy and turquoise (if you can find it). Offering a variety of cuts, gravitate towards the ones that highlight you best. Whatever material, color or style you choose, your open-draped sweater will give you trend-setting status.
Silkwood has a variety of open-draped sweaters. I just picked up a divine, Heather Grey one, with a high back and long, draped front. Grey compliments any color so it goes with everything in my closet; the style features make me smile. Cozy is the word that really comes to mind, however. As soon as I put it on, I am instantly warm and ready for the weather. Covering all the fashion criteria, these sweaters are a must-have.

Flashback to Pink
STYLE TIPS: Dressing Your Body Type
If you tend to naturally have larger-set hips, flatter them with an a-line dress or skirt. You can also bring the focus up top by wearing a patterned or v-necked top. (Both these tips also work if you tend to be a little top-heavy).
For the traditional hourglass figure, always highlight the waist. Accessorize with a belt, slip on a pair of high-waisted, denim or allow a naturally, waisted dress do all the work.
A 'boyfriend' shape, or naturally un-curvy, body-type desires angles to flatter. Think V-neck, one-shouldered blouses and boat collars up-top. Pair with patterned, angled or pencil skirts to complete the looks.
I hope these tips help you make the most of who you are, naturally. Work it, girl!
WHAT'S TRENDING: Hot-Pink
Who would have ever guessed that hot-pink would come back into style, especially after the 80's? Thankful or not, it's back!! Not only is it back, but it is also most surprisingly the 'it' color for Fall.
Channeling your inner hot-pink self may be something you have been dreaming about or it could be so out of your usual "playing field" that you have no clue how to make it work. Let me show you...
If you are either fair skinned or not totally in love with this color trend, work it with accessories. Find a hot-pink skinny belt and pair it with a denim or a cobalt blue dress. Create a show-stopper look by highlighting your feet in a hot-pink. Talk about a wow moment, in a minimalistic way.
If you are either tan from summer, naturally darker skinned or simply stoked that hot-pink is back, make a statement with your entire look. Wear a bold dress or a skirt with an ivory and pink scarf. Another great look could incorporate a floral or solid pink blouse paired with a solid black pencil skirt; topped off with an outrageous pink pump.

It's All About the Denim
We fell in love with denim a long time ago. It is one of those lasting materials, that really goes with everything, and looks good on everyone. We all wear denim, from the waist down, but this Fall we bring it back, from the waist up.
Look forward to versatility in light, dark and multi-colored denim. Vests, Jackets and tops are just the beginning. I know what you are thinking - how do I wear it and keep a modern, chic touch to it. Maybe not everyone wants to look like the "Marlboro Man", right? Below is a handful of looks that will take you into the Fall season and beyond.
1) Wear a light-colored, or two-tone, denim button-up, with a dark pair of your favorite style of jeans. Add a pair of Rayban aviators and a fedora hat and you are set.
2) Find a dark-rinse top and pair it with a light-colored, tea-length skirt. I prefer an a-line style skirt, but go with the fit that flatters your body the best. This look will take you into the Fall season and carry you over into the Spring season. Great look that is breezy chic.
3) To dress up the denim, pair a fitted, hip-length blazer over a denim top (color of your choice). Keep the look slimming with a pair of skinny jeans. The blazer should be light in color with style that speaks to you personally. For my classic, taste, I would go with an ivory, black or color-it-wild with a kelly green (one of my top colors for my pallete). With this look, you easily go from dressy to casual with the blazer. There is nothing better than a versatile wardrobe.
Zara is an impeccable brand. There pieces always subtely speak sophistication.

A Candystore Exploded on my Look
A Candy Store Exploded on my Look
We haven't seen a summer this tasty in awhile. With Mint and Coral, in the forefront, I feel like a candy store exploded every time I go shopping. The brunettes and blondes alike are sharing the popping colors of summer 2014. And let's not forget about redheads...these colors surprisingly also work for them.
Shopping at the Silkwood lately, I noticed an entire rack of coral. That's right. Not one, not two, not even three shades of this infinitely fresh color, but an entire rack. I felt like I fell into the rainbow of all things coral.
This was just the beginning of the ultimate color showcase. I went from rack to table, salivating over all things spot-on-color-trend. After devouring the entire store, as only a true stylist can, I walked out the door with a mint top by Binki Be.
With it being mid-July, I am already anxious that there is not enough time left to truly showcase summer's candy store spectrum of colors. Of course, with boutiques like Silkwood offering such a wide selection, I am sure going to try!

Travel the World with your Wardrobe
If you have been hiding under a rock, where fashion is concerned, you may not be aware that world prints are where its at for Summer 2014. This trend is also being referred to as tribal, but it's all the same. These looks are glowing with personality, and can be found almost everywhere this season.
Something about the glamorous colors and outrageous prints, of this tribal world trend, draws my inner world-traveler out. Usually these looks drape The National Geographic and various other travel magazines, but today they are gracing the most stylish fashion covers and are completely everyday style.
One place to find these pieces to create a divine, worldly look is at Silkwood boutique. Silkwood has pieces of tribal flair in spades. If you are looking for that unique piece to truly show off this style, Silkwood is the first place to look. There, you will find pieces that will elicit pure envy from all your fellow fashionistas. I, in particular, drool over the jewelry they are carrying right now. It not only speaks to the trend, but also represents local artisans. Not too shabby, my friends.
Whether or not you have been hiding from it, or sporting this look everyday, wordly prints are completely where its at this Summer. And, if you aren't into getting all decked out in the latest trends, wearing a subtle piece of jewelry is sometimes all it takes.
Come check out what Silkwood has...and as always, let's shop together soon!

The Rack is not your Body
Do you ever find yourself glamorized by a trendy dress on a rack, slimming denim on a mannequin or an itty-bitty bikini in a store window? Later, you find yourself in the dressing room, not quite measuring up. Stop torturing yourself. Even though everything won't look the same on your body as it does on the rack, you can still find a look that makes you feel just as glamorous by knowing what to look for.
The first rule of thumb when shopping should be try everything on. Every time I meet with a client, the dressing room becomes 'the place to be' for the day. It is a must. Of course, it helps when choosing pieces, to know your body shape and size. This is only a guide, however. Unfortunately every designer sizes things differently, so learning to embrace the dressing room will help you get the fabulous look you desire, faster.
Second, let the clothing really do the work, by understanding your body type. If you are not sure of what your body type is, contact a stylist or use an on-line resource. This small diamond of knowledge will assist you in choosing looks that flatter your body, and not the rack. Some stylists use the fruit method: pear, apple, banana, etc. Others use shapes: triangle, circle upside-down triangle, etc. Regardless of what method you choose, when you know what pieces work with your body type, you enable yourself to consistently pick the pieces that work for you.
Stylists and versatile clothing, for every body type, can be found at Silkwood. Walking by their window, you will indeed be glamorized by the distinctive, eye-catching looks. Once you walk through the door, you may utilize these tips to turn the look you love on the rack to the look that rocks on your body.

Shopping Silkwood
Silkwood
Silkwood is one of those hidden gems, for all those fashionably-inclined. It is a place that truly has those one-of-a-kind pieces that you must have in your closet; when you find it you can't believe you didn't know about it before. From the moment you walk through its doors, you are greeted with beautiful clothes in a comfortable, chic atmosphere.
With windows from floor to ceiling (in the Pearl), an open space full of lush furniture and beautiful clothing, entering is just the beginning of the experience. Sometimes the simple act of walking around the beautiful clothing in this inviting store is just enough to be great. Other greats at Silkwood are Sandy Varzarschi, the owner, the unique, stylish looks and the unforgettable events.
Originally located in Lake Oswego, Sandy moved her locale to the Pearl in 2011. Shortly after the Pearl move, she launched another location in Beaverton. What's great is you can shop Silkwood's high-fashion looks in both the urban and suburbia environments, with the same product and lively atmosphere! You also have many opportunities to meet Sandy, as she makes it a point to alternate between locations every other day. Knowing her customers allows her to serve and stylize best by providing you exactly what you want.
Of course it wouldn't be 'the place to be' without the clothing. A big priority of Sandy's is to provide you with pieces of clothing that not only look great, but are lasting and comfortable on, too. Like I said, at Silkwood, simply walking through the racks and feeling the silky tops and smooth leggings gets you excited! On top of all this, the pieces are surprisingly affordable. Silkwood can dress you from head to toe for under $100. Whether it be attending events or hitting the boutique with a friends, Silkwood provides an experience like no other.

Models and Mannequins
Why is it that something can look beautifully spot-on within the pages of our favorite magazines, but when we put it on in front of the mirror the look that previously looked spectacular, suddenly doesn't measure up? One word: fit.
If we don't fit something, why do we buy it? We buy it because the fashion industry tells us it's in style, because our friends are, or because it looks phenomenal on the size 0 model showcasing it. Most of us will never look like supermodels in the same exact looks they grace fashion magazine covers with. Yes, it's crushing. On the bright side, however, we don't need to mirror them in every way. We can look better than the runway walkers by understanding fit.
In the next few weeks Seven Day Style will showcase tips and tricks on how to find and fit your inner supermodel. Beginning tomorrow, look for fitness tips and fit tricks to help you express the best you, every time you get dressed.
